Steve has sung in many choirs and many venues – from St Paul’s Cathedral to the Birmingham Hippodrome. Despite his long-term interest in folk music he didn’t sing in the genre until joining Stanchester Choir in Somerset, run by Eddie Upton through Folk South West. On moving to Cornwall, he started singing with the PERANNERS in Perranporth and several other choirs. His first solo performance was at Penzance Folk Club in 2012. His fine singing got him noticed and by 2013 he was singing with BALDRICK’S PLAN. Steve can, from time to time, be ‘creative’ and may make his own adaptations to material, which have become affectionately known as ‘Steveisms’. Fortunately, he has been trained not to attempt this during live performance!
Jinks’ Initial folk interest began during the 60s revival period, attending Botallack Count House and Pipers club in West Cornwall. He moved on to male voice choir singing for a number of years, performing throughout the country, including London’s Albert Hall.
Later, Jinks became a founder member of Cornwall’s oldest shanty group RUM AND SHRUB, performing in maritime festivals in the UK, Europe and latterly the USA. Together with Graham O’Callaghan and Mike Kessell Jinks formed JINKS’S STACK, famed for its close harmonies and boisterous presentation, followed later by HUNTER’S MOON with Niall Timmins and Mike Kessell, a short-lived close harmony group, nonetheless much respected for its “off the wall” harmonies
Throughout the last 20 years Jinks also performed as THORN AND ROSES with Sylvia Fletcher and Rowena Metters.
Helen is a traditional singer and musician, having grown up in the folk scene in Cornwall before moving to Belfast to study music. She sings and plays whistle and fiddle with KRELYS, a fast paced Irish trad band, based in Cornwall and is delighted to have now found a natural outlet for her vocal skills in BALDRICK’S PLAN. Helen’s knowledge of traditional song came from her Dad, Pete Reynolds, along with other stalwarts of the folk scene. She very much enjoys a new found aptitude for harmony singing… along with a sea swim before most practices!
Peter Wray – Peter founded Baldrick’s Plan and sang with the band until late 2024, when he retired due to an ongoing lung condition. Peter still sings with singer and concertina player Alastair Brown and you will find him at various singarounds. We would like to thank Peter for creating this wonderful harmony group, giving us some excellent repertoire and beautiful harmonies.
